Firenze: Wine Town 2011

Hello again,

Just a short message: This weekend (September 24th-25th) Florence will become the 2011 Wine Town.

Just imagine that....

Being in the Italian heart of renaissance, with pleasant weather and a whole-day program full of city sightseeing and tasting wine.

To be honest – neither me, nor Silvester have a passion for wine. We prefer Chino Zero limonade (we should write about it – It is an amazing bitter-sweet drink!) or if we go out we often have Spritz (and Spanish people think their Sangria is better - Bullshit!)

So anyway we have no clue about wines . But we believe this event could be special for YOU. You can meet there thousands of interesting people from all over the world, discover new  wines collections and see the historical centre of Florence.

4. The best GELATO in Badiani

Italian pizza, pasta, coffee...forget it. It is not worth your attention..

There is something diferent you MUST try: italian gelato (ice-cream).

Let us first give the word to nutritionists and doctors:

„Ice-cream is a caloric bomb full of sugar, whipped cream and emulsifiers. It is absolutely forbidden when dieting.“

Yeah, but I live close to Badiani, renowned as the best gelateria in Florence. What can I do about it? I try to look good and to be healthy and slim. And therefore I go to Badiani only for the smallest size of my favourite riso ice-cream (the smallest portion means something like 350 calories ONLY!)

Dont get me wrong, but the bigger portion (2 euros) is large enough to feel overeaten. And once you try the biggest size you will be overeaten with ice-cream for-ever. Believe me!

Badiani offers all kind of gelato: riso (try it!), vanilla, cookies, sesame, watermelon, tiramisu and hundreds of others.

They all taste very genuine. Like a real watermelon, like a real cookie, like a real tiramisu.

If you are not Italian you will definitely be suprised how good italian gelato tastes. But as I said – the biggest portions are only for the bravest of you! And as doctors said – it is forbidden when dieting.

Do not diet.

we have not written any new post for a while and we are sorry for it. We both are out of Florence right now (vacation & honeymoon hurah!) and we have some problems to get a good internet connection here.

3. Wabi Sabi: Sushi all you can eat only for 15 euro!

So you are in Italy. In the country where the cuisine is said to be one of the best in the world. Just imagine the cuisine: famous italian pizza, „al dente“ pasta, phenomenal prosciutto and strong coffee.

But I dont like pizza. I dont drink coffe. And I gain a lot in weight when I eat pasta.

On the contrary, I love sushi. Japanese sushi. In spite of living in this pizza-pasta culture.

Just to show you my surprise when I found the Wabi Sabi Ristorante, I have to tell you a true story of my Italian friend.

She is thirty-something, hightly educated, some sort of doctor. This girl, however, has been unemployed in Italy for years.

But, a couple of months ago she got a job in Spain. After years of searching any sort of job, she found a really good one abroad. She was very happy, especially because – she said – she loves Spanish people, culture, languange...but she didn’t accept the job!

„Why not?“ I asked. „Well, what would I eat there?“ She replied. „I mean, there is no real Italian pizza – I couldnt survive without it!“

Yes, Italy is full of great Italian pizzerias and caffeterias. And (thank God) discovered a sushi restaurant which offers a lunch buffet all you can eat (from 12:30 – 14:30 every day) for 15 euros only.

It is really the best sushi I have ever eaten!

Maki sushi, nigiri sushi, temaki, sashimi...plus incredible seawead salad and chocolate cake as a dessert. Do you prefer meat or nuddles? Anything you wish. In Wabi Sabi it’s no problem.

Last month I searched for a new apartment. Who cares what kind of flat it is. My only demand was it MUST be close to Wabi Sabi. Fortunaly for me, I found one and now I live in neighbourhood of Wabi Sabi. I know Italians wont go there with me, so I eat there (like a pig!) mostly alone. But it is worth it! 

So once you are overeaten with pizza and fat after eating pasta with pesto, go for sushi. It is a diet food. Unless...unless you eat much more than you can:-)

There are still those who eats sushi with fork!

So you are in Florence and nobody told you before that Florence has the WORST climate in the whole of Italy! Expect Asian-type of smothering, choking heath in summer. What to do when it is really smothering, chokingly hot in Florence?

While living in Florence is boring and awful, they happen to have one of the most TASTY watermelons in Europe. The best place to buy them is in any of the Esselunga supermarkets. Right now for only €0.35 a kilogram!

While there are many places you can go for aperativo, we especially recommend the APERATIVO at BOSTON-T as it is set under the free sky in a spacious semi-square, allowing you to feel free in a way that is seldom in busy, crammed Florence. We especially recommend to lounge in the white couches that are of the same kind that can be seen in exiting, fun-loving cities such as Beograd, Ljubljana or Sozopol, giving BOSTON-T a cosmopolitic feel that is otherwise hard to find.

Furthermore, the buffet is tasty and cheap (8 Euro including 1 drink).
